I can purchase the cable, but I am recommended not to perform the upgrade myself, and I have a feeling that tech. Can I do it myself, accepting the fact that I could end up with the unit dead if it goes wrong?support do not want the upgrade software out in the 'wild'. thanks for any response,_________________Kerwin Hp Ipaq rx3715, 1 gig SD card, Holux GPSlim236Just want to say a big thanks to Nanette at Holux, I was going round in circles with the tech support people but she has managed to sort my problem out for me, I appreciate the help and support from Holux, nice to have the backup on a nice piece of kit.I am evaluating the unit for my own purposes as well as looking to equip some of our employees with gps systems.
If you aren't sure which operating system is installed on your GPS, do an internet search for the manufacturer's website. Then move them onto your GPS unit by saving the map to your computer, hooking your GPS unit through a USB port and clicking and dragging the map into the "Maps" or similar folder on the unit. For instance, if you have a Tom Tom GPS, searching for "Tom Tom maps" or "free Tom Tom maps" will result in many sites where updates can be found for free. You may also directly download the maps to your GPS unit by selecting the unit's "Maps" (or similar) folder as the destination when saving downloaded maps. The reason I ask is that I have a cable that has the same connector for my digital camera, and if it's the same then I don't have to buy another one :-) The other question is about the firmware, my unit has a serial 52***** how do I find out which firmware it has?If it is not the latest (3.11) then where do I get the update files._________________Kerwin Hp Ipaq rx3715, 1 gig SD card, Holux GPSlim236 Hi, We do have some authorised UK based resellers on ebay. We are still willing to support you if you have not purchased from one of our resellers, we just ask that you cover our costs, as we have obviously made nothing from the sale.
We can perform the upgrade for you, we charge 10 for carrying this out & ask that you cover the cost of return postage.Manufacturers offer updates for these maps on their individual company websites. There is other software available for varying formats, some specific and some open for all systems to use. Also, make sure that your GPS has the capability to be connected to your computer, otherwise you will only be able to get your maps from a map disc or through the unit itself, and not for free.Search for the software needed for your particular GPS.I really don't want to have to send it away for flashing if at all possible. The USB cable seems to be a 'soap on a rope' design, some electonics in a box part way down the cable.
